The Ministries of Energy and Environment and Water propose for public consultation an updated Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). The draft reflects the higher targets set by the European Green Deal and the European Climate Act, the Fit for 55 Package, the REPowerEU Plan, as well as the latest European Semester report on Bulgaria.
The document sets national targets for the five dimensions of the 2030 plan - decarbonisation, energy efficiency and security, internal energy market, and research, innovation and competitiveness. Appropriate policies and measures are envisaged to achieve a decarbonised, sustainable and resilient energy system in a cost-effective manner, taking into account national specificities and the need to provide targeted measures and incentives to meet the ambitious European climate targets by 2050.
Stimulating the low-carbon development of the economy as well as competitive and secure energy are among the main energy objectives set out in NECP. The plan also aims to increase energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and dependence on imported fuels and energy, and ensure affordable energy for all consumers.
By 2030, Bulgaria should achieve a 34.48% share of energy from renewable sources in gross final energy consumption, the updated NECP envisages. For the electricity sector, this share is 55.51%.
