82 projects for the construction and commissioning of stand-alone electricity storage facilities with a total value of BGN 1 149 013 428.49 will be financed under the ReSTORE procedure. The total usable energy storage capacity of the facilities is 9712.89 MWh.
These are the results of the successfully completed evaluation of the proposals received for investments under the BG-RRP-4.0034 "National infrastructure for storage of renewable energy" (ReSTORE) procedure, funded under the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan, the Ministry of Energy announced.
By the deadline for submission of project proposals - December 5, 2024, a total of 151 proposals were received, 118 of them with a total value of BGN 1 638 377 306.28 were qualified.
The main objective of the procedure is to provide an opportunity to significantly increase the share of renewable energy (wind and solar) in the energy mix and to ensure the security and stability of the Bulgarian electricity system. The investment supports the construction and commissioning of a national infrastructure of renewable electricity storage facilities with at least 3000 MWh of usable energy capacity at grid level. The storage facilities will be distributed throughout the country and connected to the ESO transmission grid or to a distribution grid. Implementation of the projects will be carried out through open and competitive tendering procedures based on clear, transparent and non-discriminatory criteria.
The implementation of the ReSTORE procedure will ensure a high degree of grid balancing, which is a prerequisite for the successful integration of electricity generated from renewable energy sources.
The financial resources available under the procedure amount to BGN 1 153 939 700. The 30 projects for which funding is not available are included in the list of reserve proposals for a total amount of just over BGN 415 million.
