249 projects for renewable energy production and energy storage with a total value of nearly BGN 526 million will be financed under the NNRP

The evaluation of the investment proposals received under the procedure “Support for new power generation capacities from renewable sources and electricity storage with an installed capacity of 200 kW to 2 MW” (Call 1) and the procedure "Support of new capacities for the production of electricity from renewable sources and storage of electricity with an installed capacity of more than 200 kW" (Call 2) funded under the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan (NRRP) has been successfully completed, the Ministry of Energy reports.

A total of 327 proposals have been received under Call 1, of which 267 have been admitted. The available financial resources under the procedure amount to BGN 107 570 650, which allows for the financing of 200 projects with a total value of nearly BGN 107 million. The projects foresee the installation of 435 MW of renewable generation capacity and 176 MW of local electricity storage facilities. A further 67 projects, for which there are insufficient financial resources, are included in the list of reserve proposals for a total value of just over BGN 44 million.

A total of 70 proposals have been received under Call 2, of which 65 have been ranked. The financial resources available under the procedure amount to BGN 427 544 438, which allows for the financing of 49 projects with a total value of almost BGN 419 million. During their implementation, 2,660 MW of renewable generation capacity and 1,000 MW of local electricity storage facilities will be installed. The 16 projects for which there are not enough financial resources are included in the list of reserve proposals with a total value of nearly BGN 43 million.

The deadline for the implementation of the projects is 31 March 2026.

"Generating electricity from renewable sources, as well as providing sufficient electricity storage capacity, is key in terms of meeting the challenges associated with the Green Deal. Investments in decarbonised power generation technologies are the way forward for the development of a modern energy sector", Energy Minister Vladimir Malinov stressed. In his words, the completed evaluation of the proposals to be funded under the NRRP is an important step towards achieving key priorities in the energy sector - reducing carbon emissions and successfully integrating renewable energy generation capacity into the grid while ensuring the security and stability of the electricity system. The main objective of the investment is to contribute to increasing the share of clean energy in the energy mix of Bulgaria on the path to climate neutrality. The procedure has demonstrated substantial investment interest, with supported proposals for the construction and integration into the grid of about 3 GW of additional new renewable generation capacity together with about 1.2 GW of local electricity storage facilities. This allows for the rapid deployment of new renewable capacity with intermittent generation and successfully overcomes the challenges of grid congestion, power system balancing and market distortion.
