Conference “Market integration of RES and the transition to clean energy" organized by the Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association with the support of the Ministry of Energy.

On 20th of April, in Sofia Hotel Balkan held a conference on theme: "Market integration of RES and the transition to clean energy", organized by the Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association with the support of the Ministry of Energy. The event was part of the official program of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council. The conference was attended by key energy representatives: Temenujka Petkova, Minister of Energy, Mechthild Wörsdörfer, Director, Renewables, research and innovation, energy efficiency, DG Energy, European Commission, Claude Turmes, President, European Forum for Renewable Energy (Eufores), Ricardo Gorini, REmap Senior Programme Officer, International Renewable Energy Agency, Jecho Stankov, Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. James Watson, Chief Executive Officer Director of Solar Power Europe, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Ivanov, Chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, Delyan Dobrev, Chairman of the Parliamentary Energy Energy Committee and others. On the event was discussed a number of important topics such as: renewable energy and the transition to a low-carbon economy, the goals set out in the Clean Energy Package for all Europeans, the economic benefits that Bulgaria can derive from its RES development potential and etc. During the conference Mr. Delyan Dobrev said that investors in RES will be given the right to conclude long-term contracts with industrial consumers so they could sold to directly to the consumers. The Chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, Mr. Ivan Ivanov, reported that in France and Germany, renewable energy for kilowatt hours is already twice as low as the estimated prices of the EU's of under construction plants. The speaker from IRENA - Mr. Ricardo Gorini, presented a report by the organization, according to which Bulgaria is one of the EU countries with the greatest potential for development of RES. The same thing was pointed out by Mrs. Mechthild Wörsdörfer,she stressed that this is the way our country should follow. In conclusion, Mr. Julian Popov (former Minister of the Environment), who was also the conference speaker, said that Bulgaria could become a leading player if it fast stakes on modern energy.
